If you own or ride an electric scooter, you should be aware of the new legal requirements. 🚨 The aim is to improve safety and prevent fines and vehicle immobilisation.
Since 2 January 2026, electric scooters must have mandatory third-party liability insurance in order to be used on public roads.
Personal mobility vehicles must be registered in the Personal Light Vehicles Register and have the corresponding identification.
If you bought your scooter before 22 January 2024, you can continue using it without certification until 22 January 2027. After that date, it must meet the required certification requirements. ⚠️
From 1 October 2026, the minimum age for riding a personal mobility vehicle will be 15 years old.
From 1 October 2026, riders must wear a properly fastened, approved or certified protective helmet.
At night or in poor visibility conditions, you must use reflective or illuminated elements so that other road users can see you clearly. 🚦
