Estuario del Río Guadiaro – Playa Lacasitos

🌊 Why we love it

At the mouth of the Guadiaro River, Playa Lacasitos sits where river meets sea — a beautiful, tranquil stretch of soft sand and calm shallow water that’s perfect for families, beach lovers and nature seekers alike. This beach forms part of the Estuario del Río Guadiaro Natural Area, one of the only wetland habitats on this stretch of Mediterranean coastline and a haven for wildlife.

👣 Best for

  • Swimming & paddling: Gentle shallow waters make it great for kids!
  • Strolling along the shore: Follow the riverbank out toward the estuary and soak up the views of the water and landscape.
  • Birdwatching: This area is a top stopover for migratory birds crossing the Strait of Gibraltar — expect to see ducks, herons, plovers, egrets and more throughout the year.
  • Photography & picnics: Hard to beat those golden dunes with coastal views and wildlife all around!

🐦 Nature & wildlife

The Guadiaro estuary is an important wetland reserve (protected natural area), attracting 100+ bird species thanks to its mix of river, reedbeds and sandy shores — including migrants and winter visitors alike.

📸 Fun fact

Though small compared to other nature spots, this estuary is the only wetland of its kind for over 100 km along the coast — making it a special ecological treasure right next to Sotogrande.

🌞 Vibes

Relaxed and peaceful with a laid‑back beach feel — no crowds, no big beach clubs, just nature, calm water and a chance to connect with the wild side of Sotogrande.

📍 Quick Access Tips

  • The estuary and beach are located on the river’s mouth just west of Sotogrande’s main coastal stretch — easy to reach by car or foot from nearby residential roads.
  • No facilities on the beach (no lifeguards, no bars), so bring water and shade for longer visits.
